Despite แปลว่า “แม้ว่า” หรือ “ทั้ง ๆ ที่” ใช้เชื่อมความคิดที่ขัดแย้งกัน เช่น มีอุปสรรคแต่ผลกลับเป็นอีกอย่าง จุดที่ต้องจำคือหลัง despite มักตามด้วยคำนาม สรรพนาม หรือกริยาเติม -ing ไม่ตามด้วยประธานและกริยาตรง ๆ

ไม่ใช้ despite of the rain และไม่เขียน despite it was raining ถ้าต้องการตามด้วยประโยค ให้ใช้ despite the fact that it was raining หรือเปลี่ยนเป็น although
