หลักการเปลี่ยนประโยคบอกเล่าเป็นปฏิเสธ คำถาม ใน Past Continuous Tense คล้ายกับ is am are ทุกประการเพราะ was were เป็นช่องที่สองของ is am are นั่นเอง
ถ้าผู้เรียนได้ศึกษาสองเรื่องดังกล่าวมาแล้ว เรื่องต่อไปนี้ก็จะเข้าใจได้ง่ายเลยครับ
ประโยคบอกเล่า
- ประโยคบอกเล่าจะเป็นโครงสร้างธรรมดา คือ ประธาน +was, were + กริยา เติม ing

We were cleaning the room when it stated to snow. พวกเรากำลังทำความสะอาดห้อง ตอนที่หิมะเริ่มตก
They were cooking when we arrived. พวกเขากำลังทำอาหาร ตอนที่พวกเราไปถึง
Cats were drinking water while dogs were standing. แมวหลายตัวกำลังดื่มน้ำ ขณะที่หมาหลายตัวกำลังยืน

- โครงสร้างปฏิเสธคล้ายประโยคบอกเล่า เพียงแค่เอาคำว่า not มาวางหลังwas, were

- were not เวอ น็อท >> weren’t เวินท แปลว่า ไม่

ประโยคคำถาม Yes / No Question
การทำประโยคคำถามง่ายๆเอง เพียงแค่เอาคำว่า Was, Were มาวางไว้หน้าประโยคแค่นั้นเองและอย่าลืมเติมเครื่องหมายคำถามท้ายประโยคด้วย นะครับ
ประโยคคำถามแบ่งออกเป็นสองประเด็นคือ ถามในรูปแบบบอกเล่า และถามรูปแบบปฏิเสธ
1. การถามในรูปแบบบอกเล่า

คำถามฟังดูแปลกๆ ว่าไหม แต่นี่แหละคือคำพูดของฝรั่ง ถ้าได้ได้แบบไทยๆ ก็นำมาเกลาอีกทีแล้วกัน
ประโยคคำถาม Wh- Question
ให้เอาคำเหล่านี้ (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How) นำหน้าประโยค ตามด้วย was, were
Who was eating while we were cooking? ใครกำลังกิน ขณะที่พวกเรากำลังทำกับข้าว

What were you doing when I phoned? คุณกำลังทำอะไรอยู่ ตอนที่ฉันโทรหา
